To Simply define it, Cholesterol is a particle in the blood that all humans and animals need to live but in today’s day and age, we end up with too much of it.

Its primary role is to create a membrane—like a bubble—around molecules in the body and help them travel from place to place.

But when your body has more cholesterol than it needs, problems arise and it begins to build up on the walls of your arteries, increasing your chance of developing heart disease and other serious problems.

However, one tricky thing about high cholesterol is that, unlike some medical concerns, unhealthy cholesterol levels may not create noticeable symptoms. But if you are diagnosed with it here are a list of 4 foods you must avoid:

Number 1: Red meat. Beef, pork, and lamb:

Red meat, Beef, pork, and lamb are quite high in saturated fat. Cuts of meat such as hamburgers, ribs, pork chops, and roasts are highest in fat. You don’t need to cut out all red meat. Limit it to only occasional use. Stay within the 3-ounce recommended serving size and choose the lean cuts such as sirloin, pork loin or filet mignon. Better yet, substitute meats for low-saturated fat and cholesterol proteins like chicken or turkey, fish, and beans.

Number 2: Fried foods:

Fried Foods that go for a swim in the deep fryer – think chicken wings, mozzarella sticks and onion rings – are among the worst when it comes to cholesterol. Frying increases the energy density or calorie count of food. But if you’re in love with the crunch that fried food gives, drizzle a bit of olive oil over food before you pop it in the air fryer or bake at high heat with the likes of potato wedges and chicken, until golden.

Number 3: Processed meats:

Hot dogs, sausage, and bacon use the fattiest cuts of red meat; they tend to be high in cholesterol and saturated fat. Bacon, and sausage made with turkey or chicken, will sound healthier, and they are to some extent lower in cholesterol than the red meat versions, but they are not cholesterol-free.

Number 4: Baked goods:

Afternoon Treats like Cookies, cakes, and pastries require lots of butter and shortening – in order to add up to lots of cholesterol.

You do not have to say no to dessert, Just lighten up a little. Instead of butter, in there with that flour, use applesauce or bananas when baking.

Or for dessert, how about some low-fat frozen yogurt with berries on top.

On a concluding note, if you are someone suffering from High cholesterol or know someone who is, you have to make sure to Focus on a balanced diet with plenty of fibre-rich foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.

Along with that Choose healthier fats, like polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, found in foods like avocados, olive oil, and fatty fish. Limit or avoid foods high in added sugars, salt, and unhealthy fats.
